Staudacher (University of Milan).</p> <p>In August 1986 his success in a competitive state examination led to his being appointed permanent Deputy Unit Head at the "Gaetano Pini" Orthopaedic Institute.</p> <p>In October-November that year he was a visiting fellow of the orthopaedic clinic of Hamburg directed by Prof. Bukolz. There he was able to deepen his knowledge of hip and knee replacement surgery. In the department directed by Prof. Baar at the same clinic, Marelli acquired the most up-to-date techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of septic complications arising from prosthetic joint surgery. In particular, he was able to study and develop the use of modular revision prosthesis built using the most modern computerized techniques.</p> <p>In the academic year 1991-1992 he was appointed contract lecturer in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University of Milan.</p> <p>He continued his lecturing and in February 1995 took up an appointment at the University of Florida, Gainesville, as Associate Professor at the Department of Orthopaedics, where he collaborated in what is an ongoing study into the constant technological progresses in hip and knee replacement.</p> <p>On 30 April 1996 he was nominated Head of the Division for Computer-Aided Modular Prosthetic Surgery at the "Gaetano Pini" Orthopaedic Institute.</p> <p>In March 1998 he attended The Institute for Bone & Joint Disorders under the direction of Dr. Anthony Hedley in Phoenix, Arizona, with sessions in hip replacement surgery.</p> <p>In October that same year he participated in the founding of the G.I.R. (Gruppo Italiano Riprotesizzazione, Italian Joint Replacement Group), later renamed the A.I.R. (Associazione Italiana di Riprotesizzazione, Italian Joint Replacement Association).</p> <p>In January 2001, after successfully completing a training course in Rastatt, Germany, Marelli was authorised to use the CASPAR for purposes of robotised knee replacement. In June that year he was elected a Full Member of the European Hip Society.</p> <p>On 25-26 June 2002 he taught at the live orthopaedic surgery Master s course organised by the "Gaetano Pini" Orthopaedic Institute, where he was also appointed that same year as Consultant and Head of Unit.</p> <p>Since 2002 he has held the post of Unit Director at the  Gaetano Pini Orthopaedic Institute.</p> <p>Marelli is a member of the board of the AISO (Associazione Italiana Studio Osteosintesi, Italian Association for the Study of Osteosynthesis) and of the following important specialist associations:</p> <ul> <li>SIOT (Società Italiana di Ortopedia e Traumatologia, Italian Orthopaedic and Accident Surgery Association)</li> <li>OTODI (Ortopedici Traumatologi Ospedalieri d Italia, Italian Association of Orthopaedic Specialists and Traumatologists)</li> <li>SICG (Società Italiana di Chirurgia del Ginocchio, Italian Knee Surgery Association)</li> <li>Società Italiana dell Anca (Italian Hip Association)</li> <li>Italian Society of Revision Surgery</li> <li>SICUT (Società Italiana Di Chirurgia d Urgenza e del Trauma, Italian Association for Trauma and Emergency Surgery)</li> <li>EFORT (European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology)</li> <li>AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons)</li> </ul> <p>To date Dr. Bruno Marelli has carried out over 4,500 orthopaedic operations and has participated in over 600 national and international conferences as both speaker and chair.</p> <p>He is the author of 102 scientific publications in national and international periodicals and has written two monographs.</p> <br> <br> <br> <br> </td> <td width="40">&nbsp;</td> </tr> </table></TD> </TR> </TABLE></td> </tr> </table> <!-- End ImageReady Slices --> </BODY> </HTML>
